Gospel Extravaganza
For over 27-years, the Beta Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., has celebrated the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., through hosting an annual Gospel Extravaganza. The family-friendly concert is free and open to the public. The extravaganza features diverse choirs, choral groups, and orators. The event benefits the Beta Eta Lambda Scholarship Foundation of Alpha Phi Alpha, which awards an annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. scholarship.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968, as he stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel. On Nov. 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill making Martin Luther King Jr. Day a federal holiday
